ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rachel Urista moved to Oregon last year after an opportunity became available for her to settle down in “the heart of the valley.”  The daughter of a native Oregonian, she visited various parts of the state with her family during childhood.  With each trip, Rachel’s love for Oregon grew.  Over the past year, Rachel’s artwork had been profoundly influenced by the new discoveries she has made.  With her artwork, Rachel aims to share her discoveries with you.
Rachel studied fine art, illustration and biomedical art in college and has a strong background in graphic design. Her medical and abstract art has shown in galleries in Los Angeles, Culver City and New York.

Rachel’s art continues to grow and develop.  In 2008 she was introduced to the world of art journaling.  As part of an art group in Southern California, she participated in art journaling retreats and taught several small groups.  Rachel currently participates in Postal Sketches, a traveling illustration journal and the New York Art Journal, a bi-coastal traveling art journal.

Rachel’s current body of work is influenced by her awe and respect of Oregon.  Her artwork is also shaped by the love she has for art journaling and its mixed media base.  Rachel is currently working with mixed media on canvas, including paper, plaster and other grounds and pastes.  She continuously strives to grasp the beauty and life of her surroundings in Oregon, while playing and exploring with new techniques and materials.
