Art Journal Workshop • A Journey back to Creativity

RUristaArtJournalWorkshop_Jan2014

Yesterday I held a great art journaling workshop at Imagine Coffee. A really fantastic way to start off at the new venue!

Everyone did really great work! Best part by far- seeing students reconnect with their creativity. Watching them as they splattered paint, ripped paper and played with colors brought me so much joy!!! What wonderful energy they brought to the workshop!

Art Journaling really has great capacity for good! Heart is feeling full. I humbled to be a part of their creative journey.

Of Prayer Flags, Art Retreats and Art Tables!

PrayerFlags_FinalRachelsMagnets Image 2 RachelsMagnets Image1

Busy busy time just before Spring arrives! I am preparing to go to an art retreat An Artful Journey in Santa Cruz where I will be taking Jesse Renos class called “No Limits” Very excited for this!

I just finished my Prayer flags and sent them in for the retreat also. Cannot wait to see everyones! I had so much fun making them – combing paint ink and a lino-block print on muslin cloth. Turned out brighter and more beautiful than expected! I think I will have to make more…especially for my garden this summer.

Lastly, very happy to announce I will have art for sale at the retreat. I am busy working away at the table set up, mini paintings and itsy bitsy magnets. Immersing myself in pattern, color and textures…

Hoping this brings some spring color to the last of these winter days!

I am happy to finally break the news, I will have artwork published in “14 Artists Journals” a new book by Orly Avineri, coming this February to Amazon, Createspace and Orlys blog.

I am so excited to be one of the 14 featured artists in this book! This is an amazing collection of creative works by unique souls. I am honored to be alongside fellow artists such as Brian Kasstle & Pnina Gold.

If you haven’t already checked out Orly’s first book “One Artists Journal” Click Here! Also a book not to miss, filled to the brim with the gorgeous, lush journal pages from artist Orly Avineri.

Stay tuned for additional updates in the next few weeks!

She had a Bone to Pick With Them

Several months back I was asked to participate in a local community project, The She Project. Its a wonderfully inclusive and creative project and you can find details here.

All participants were given a short sentence or prompt, and given two hours to create a response. There were no strict rules execpt that it had to be 8×10. How wonderfully free!

The quote I was given was “She had a Bone to Pick with Them”

My friend and I got together in my garage studio, put on good music and went to work!

Below was my submission.

The show was really awesome, with a vast array of responses, through imagery, 3-D work and more. It was all so amazing to look at.

Here are a few photos from the show, I only took a few shots, but I could have taken a photo of each of them, they were each so unique!

Introducing…Orly Avineri – ONE Artists Journey- The BOOK – Book Give Away and Blog Hop!

I am so excited to announce my dear friend Orly Avineri’s Book is now available!

Created by from a collection of over four years of artwork in the form of blog posts, “One Artist Journal” is just gorgeous!

The book is lush with colors textures and words that will make you want to curl up with a hot cup of tea and immerse yourself in it. I love to get lost in her artwork, feel the colors and emotions from her blog posts, now I can hold them in my hands in her book. The colorful pages are just as intense as the walls of her warm inviting home, the place of her incredible workshops in Southern California.

What a journey…Looking back some years, who would have thought that a chance meeting while apartment hunting would grow into an honored friendship, one so instrumental in my life; Orly introduced to me the world of art journaling and blogging, which I at first only tentatively approached. Her encouraging words along this time have been priceless, and I cherish our time together, as we are no longer city neighbors!

I also remember distinctly four years ago, Orly saying she was going to create a book of her art. I though “what a wonderful idea!” So when a day came that Orly asked for my technical advice to format her book I said “YES, Yes!!” I am really so happy to apply my design skills to projects that I believe in dearly – projects that can inspire, support and create feelings of love, wonder and add positivity to the world – and this is one of them! Now, I am truly honored to tell the world Orly Avineri’s book is here! She is not only an inspiration to all artists and all creative types out there, but more than that, she is an inspiration to all, showing us we can follow our dreams 🙂

This is a book to be cherished, as it was made with lots of love and inspiration.
Looking at her blog is a must! Stop by and soak in the richness of her work and see more photos of the book http://oneartistjournal.com/

……………

You can purchase Orly’s Book at any of these three places:

1. Support Orly best by ordering through her eStore https://www.createspace.com/3868179

2. Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/One-Artist-Journal-Orly-Avineri/dp/1477401415/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336760543&sr=8-1

3. While attending one of Orly’s wonderful workshops in Southern California.

It is worth mentioning the best place to purchase from is her eStore, where the most proceeds go to the artist herself, the other two produce almost nothing for the creator. As Kelly Kilmer beautifully stresses: “a couple of bucks vs. Amazon’s pennies.”

Book Giveaway Details: To enter the drawing to receive Orly’s book leave a comment to my post on her blog http://oneartistjournal.com/ . The winner will be announced the next Friday, May 25.

<a

href=”https://rachelurista.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/20x20fushia2.jpg”>

Its officially Spring in the Valley!! Flowers are blooming all over, new leaves are breaking through the soil and bursting off of branches! Who can’t be inspired and affected by it all? 🙂

Check out these 12x12s and 20x20s at Sonia’s Shop STASH downtown. Take a peek in the store window, you’ll see her store is in bloom too!

Already can’t wait to continue with these bright lovely textural pieces!

Whats next? The Rhodies, Camelias, Tulips? Whats your favorite flower?

Spring Canvases

4″ x 4″ each, Acrylic and Ink

I’ve been working away in my new garage studio and now the pieces are finally out in the sun and for sale at STASH downtown Corvallis!

As plants and flowers all around me begin to bloom, my eyes soak in all the colors and textures. I love creating these tiny worlds, all the color and feeling of a spring day, contained in a 4″ square!

I am working on more sizes, variety and magnets! Until then, I hope these provide you a little sunshine and spring color on those grey days between the sunny ones!

ARTFEST 2012- Signing up for Spring!

Spring break is here at the college town and my own art-filled Spring is just beginning!

The final count down is here… Two days and we are off to PortTownsend, WA for ARTFEST 2012!

(Copyright TeeshaMoore http://www.teeshaslandofodd.com/artfest/info.html)

Three full days of intensive artful workshops! I am really, really excited to finally go! My good friends have been going and teaching for a few years now and have been urging me to go for a while now.

I will be taking three specific classes:

Day 1: Vintage Colorbook by Lisa Bebi

Ohhhhhhhhh so yummy dreamy colorful and emotional ways to use acrylics. Can’t wait to have some specific tools in my pockets and my dreamy visions here in Oregon can come to life on canvas!! 😀

Day 2: Flexible Stuffable Journal by LK Ludwig

Screen shot 2012-03-25 at 12.01.18 PMimage credit LK Ludwig

Incredible! Can’t wait to stitch and fold. I have made my own books before in college, and they are labors of love! Ready to jump back in and learn new techniques! So fun to be able to make my own sketch books and journals, customize the paper and create custom covers. I’ve been gathering the supplies for this one, and lovelingly fingering different papers, already stitching and folding in my minds eye.

Day 3: Collection or Obsession By Roxanne Padgett

heheee! This one is right up my alley. I naturally collect twigs, rocks, sand and shells from all my favorite places. To have a place, to create something from these items of obsession is going to be great! 😀 I have been collecting more than usual in preparation for this class. Take a look below for some of my newest favorite places and collections…
