This weekend, I had the honor of participating in the 41st Corvallis Fall Festival with the Temporary Artists’ Guild. Although the weather was so severe the second day was canceled, we had a good turn out Saturday and it was wonderful to meet new people and share my work.
Our booth displayed the works of 9 local artists in the guild. Here are a few shots below of our booth, and a few close ups of my display.
Each painting is unique, with layers and layers of vintage papers, ink washes, acrylics, colored pencil, graphite and gel pens.
Layer upon layer I worked, creating a little piece of Oregon on each canvas. Each scene is a reflection of my time spent on the Coast and also in Central Oregon in the Cascade Mountain Range. Travels in this state are breathtaking and inspiring and I hope my pieces can share a bit of my world.

Ah, my familiar tools! My lovely ink pen and deliciously colored pastels…back in my hands, as they have been early on in my artful journey. But this time experimenting with pastel and ink- together! Although the materials are so familiar to me I have never combined them in one piece. Here’s to new thoughts, new directions, and a new year!
I also can’t get enough of line work and patterns. Something about it is very soothing. Tracing lines from nature, defining space as I ink fine lines again and again. This way of working can become very meditative.
Wrapping up the first month of the new year with many projects going on! Stay tuned for more new art and events!
Have a wonderfully creative, artful journey this 2013!
Color is so important in making your vision come alive. I usually make swatches by hand, scratching out squares of color with colored pencils, and I still do! But the program makes it so instantaneous!
This site is great if you are trying to work out color combinations for your next project. It also spurs new color ideas very quickly with just the click of the mouse. I love it too, because you can save all your combinations for later inspiration.
Hope to see you on there! My screen name is rachieu, see you in ColorLovers land!
